GROWCERIES

[application design sprint]

The Design Sprint is a five-day process developed by Google to efficiently solve problems and test innovative ideas. In our sprint, we created an application that addresses a common issue faced by home gardeners, an overwhelming surplus of homegrown vegetables leading to unnecessary food waste. Our goal was to connect these gardeners with individuals interested in receiving fresh, locally grown produce, creating a sense of community and sustainability.

[WEEK OVERVIEW]

[RESEARCH]

In our research, we interviewed people who might be interested in using Growceries. These interviews provided valuable insights and a deeper understanding of the problem. Home gardeners are happy to give away their excess produce but prefer not to put in extra effort, such as delivering it themselves. On the other hand, recipients are enthusiastic about supporting locally grown food and are willing to travel a short distance to pick it up, but they want a clear overview of how far they’ll need to go.

Another key finding was the importance of privacy for both parties. With these insights, we developed our "How Might We" questions and focused on making the exchange as seamless as possible. Posting and finding produce should be simple, with recipients having access to a map that shows the pick-up location without revealing exact address, ensuring both convenience and privacy.

[FINAL PRODUCT]

[FIND GROCERIES]

Find food in your area and stay informed about the produce your friends and acquaintances are growing. You can also filter by specific foods and set distance parameters to see what’s nearby.

[UPLOAD YOUR HARVEST]

If you want to give away your harvest, you can easily upload it to Growceries with just a few clicks.

[MAKE A REQUEST]

If you find food items you'd like, you can request them directly and specify the quantity.

[ACCEPT REQUEST]

You will receive a notification when someone requests your harvest. After that, you can communicate via text to discuss when the person will pick it up, and at this point, you can send your exact location.

[HANDOVER AND RATING]

The food is handed over, and afterward, the transaction can be rated to ensure reliability and security.
