ZWEITHELFER

[a fictional future product]

Over half of adults haven't taken a first aid course in over 10 years. Studies show that 5-10% of fatalities could be avoided if first aid was given in a timely manner. Surveys and statistics highlight that many people either don’t feel capable of performing first aid or are unsure how to help. There is a need for support in providing first aid in emergency situations. ZWEITHELFER is based on an AR headset that guides you step by step through performing first aid.

[IDEATION]

In this project, we explored emerging technologies like AR glasses and their potential impact on the future. To identify problems that these technologies could address, we utilized future wheels.

We concluded that an AR-enhanced first aid kit could effectively prevent many issues. Our scenario envisions that in 5 to 10 years, every first aid kit is a ZWEITHELFER.

[RESEARCH]

A huge part in the process was the research. We did research on first aid and explored the AR technology. Our focus included essential first aid techniques and the influence of technological advancements like mobile applications. We also tested the Vision Pro, allowing us to experience augmented reality interaction firsthand.

Additionally, we were interested in discussing our idea with professionals in the first aid and healthcare sectors. We wanted to know if similar initiatives were already in progress, so we conducted interviews to gain valuable insights and feedback from these experts.

[FUNCTIONS]

The system automatically transmits the location to the control center. The First Aid AI monitors the conversation with the control center, analyzing it to determine the required actions.

After that first aid measures are provided through spoken instructions, sounds and visualized guidance.

[DESIGN PROCESS]

We did not just add the AR glasses to the first aid kit, we rethought the entire concept of the kit itself. Typically, it contains many similar-looking packages with small labels and no clear instructions on how to use which item in different situations.

[FIRST AID KIT]

[PACKAGING]

To improve the packaging, we redesigned it by numbering it from 1 to 4 and dividing the kit into four distinct color-coded sections. Now, the AR assistant can simply tell you to use "pink 3", allowing you to quickly find the right item and help faster without searching.

[AR GLASSES]

We designed a pair of glasses to accompany the first aid kit. While looking through the AR glasses the instructions will be displayed onto the lenses and therefore into the scene.
A technical and durable look was the intend of the design. My role was to 3D model and print the glasses. After printing, I sanded, painted, and assembled the folding mechanism and glass.

[THE SITUATION]

After securing the accident scene you open the kit and put on the ZWEITHELFER glasses. Once put on, the emergency call is made automatically, and the location is transmitted to the emergency center. The first responder describes the incident and answers the dispatcher’s questions. In the next step, the dispatcher hands over to the AI assistant, which has been listening to the conversation and is therefore able to determine the necessary actions.

[STEP BY STEP]

The first responder is then guided step by step through the first aid process with visualizations, animations and sound.

[INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT]

The first responder receives clear instructions on which package to use at each step. If a step is not completed, the assistant repeats the instructions until it is done. Once all necessary actions are taken, the first responder is reconnected with the dispatcher until the ambulance arrives.
